The Stations of the Cross (also known as the Way of the Cross or Via Dolorosa) is a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates the final hours of Jesus Christ's life. It serves as a "spiritual pilgrimage," where participants move from station to station to meditate on specific events of the Passion. Our Stations has both the traditional language leading to Christ’s death and its sorrows easily found in our City where similar moments played out today.
At St. Ignatius they are sculptured engravings arranged at intervals around the walls of a church. They are as follows:
His body is taken down from the cross; and aid in the tomb.
The object of the Stations is to help the faithful to make in spirit, as it were, a pilgrimage to the chief scenes of Christ's sufferings and death, and this has become one of the most popular of Catholicdevotions. It is carried out by passing from Station to Station, with certain prayers at each and devout meditation on the various incidents in turn.
Each Stations of the Cross Service is followed by the best Lenten meal in Baltimore, prepared and served lovingly by parishioners. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
