The Loaves and Fishes Ministry provides nourishing weekend meals to the homeless and poor of Baltimore City while fostering fellowship between guests and volunteers.Founded in 1986 as a weekend feeding program under At Jacob’s Well, the ministry became part of St. Ignatius Church in 2002, when the Parish Council expanded service to include Sunday evenings. In 2013, the program grew again to offer Sunday night meals during the summer.
Today, Loaves and Fishes is sustained by dedicated teams of St. Ignatius parishioners who serve with compassion and commitment.

Registration & Commitment
Once registered with the ministry, volunteers are then assigned to teams, each of which goes out on either the first, second, third, or forth Sunday of every month.
Due to the enthusiasm of volunteers, no one needs to irrevocably commit to serving every month.
Team captains will contact members of their team several days before their assigned Sunday and ask for a firm decision on whether or not they can participate that Sunday.

Confirmed Volunteer
Once confirmation is received, members can then choose to do one of the four tasks:
- Shop for food and supplies
- Prepare the food
- Drive the van
- Serve on the van

Time TableFood preparation occurs at 12:30-3:00 p.m. while van distribution takes place from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
The van follows a generally fixed route that covers downtown Baltimore, Fells Point, and the Fallsway around the JFX Expressway, although food is offered to people wherever they are found.
The van is back at St. Ignatius around 6:00 p.m. and cleanup usually takes about fifteen minutes.
