I am a vascular surgeon on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Chief of Surgery at UMMC Midtown Campus on Linden Avenue – a 5-minute walk from St. Ignatius. My clinical practice is based at Midtown where I have had the opportunity to build relationships with a host of patients who use our facility for their medical care. The majority of these individuals are from our Midtown inner city neighborhood and are largely low income, under insured, low health literacy members of marginalized communities often grappling with poverty, addiction and psychiatric burdens beyond specific health issues. Reaching out, supporting and bringing Christian compassion to our local community is one of the guiding principles of our parish. I believe that the perspectives that I have developed over 20 years working as a physician in Midtown can help St. Ignatius meet this mission.
In addition, I have served on the Board of Directors (as member, Finance Committee Chair and Board Chair) of two large national non-profit certification and accreditation organizations. This experience has taught me how to listen and how to build consensus to move projects and organizations forward.
Thanks to the St. Ignatius community for offering the opportunity to contribute in this meaningful way to the work of our parish.
